Murrells Inlet is a seaside town south of Myrtle Beach and neighboring Surfside Beach. Originally settled thousands of years before written history, the original residents of the area included the Waccamaw Tribe whose relics can still be found on the banks of the rivers and inlets. The infamous pirate, Blackbeard, in particular, was known to frequent the area to bury his ill-gotten treasures.

As the English and Spanish began to settle in the area in the early 1700s, the plantation era began. The settlers created large plantations with rice being a dominant crop in the area until the end of the Civil War. These days, you won’t find sprawling plantations available in the Murrells Inlet real estate market as those who have weathered the ravages of storms and time are part of the area’s cherished historic district.

Murrells Inlet offers a variety of marsh-front and water-front homes, as well as homes near local nature conservation sites. Mt Gilead and Prince Creek are just two of the in-demand communities in the area that include several water-front options. The Bays comprise a set of gated neighborhoods with a great selection of fun amenities for families, including sports fields, a pool and outdoor fire pits. Boating enthusiasts might consider one of the newer communities with access to the Intracoastal Waterway, such as Bellwood Landing, Collins Creek Landing and Creek Harbour.
